Marwa Zamir
Marwa Zamir is a passionate advocate and activist currently pursuing a Bachelor of Civil Law degree at Maynooth University in Ireland. Originally from Afghanistan, Marwa moved to Ireland at the age of 13 as a refugee with no knowledge of English. Through determination and resilience, she overcame language barriers and found her passion for advocacy, particularly focusing on the challenges faced by refugees and asylum seekers in Ireland. Marwa's extensive involvement in various organizations, including the Irish Refugee Council, UNHCR Refugee Advisory Board, and the National Youth Council of Ireland, highlights her commitment to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and driving social change.
Marwa has actively participated in numerous projects and initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the difficulties of living in direct provision, a system for housing asylum seekers in Ireland. She co-authored the educational resource book "Tight Spaces," which addresses the issues of racism and bullying faced by young asylum seekers and is now being included in the junior cert curriculum for secondary schools. As the youngest member of the UNHCR Refugee Advisory Board, Marwa plays a crucial role in representing the concerns of young refugees and asylum seekers at national and international levels. Her dedication to education, social justice, and youth empowerment aligns closely with the mission of UNITE 2030, and she is eager to contribute to creating a more equitable and sustainable world for future generations.”
